Poetry Blog Rankings

*Tips for poetic success on PoetryBlogRankings.com
----- Perform a quick self-check to ensure you're properly using our site as a resource.

Make sure your link works

  1. Log out of the site that holds your poetry, then click the link you've provided. Having a non-working link is far too common and kills any chance you have at being read. If you NEED a private page, put your poetry on a page or on a site that you don't have to make private.
  2. Also, make sure the imaged link we've provided you is visible and functional on your page. Ensure that everyone who loves your work is able to help you increase your rating on this site, to ensure that even more will have the opportunity to love and be inspired by your work.

Don't worry about Criticism, Pessimism, or Plagiarism

  • If one-in-a-million people love your work, that's A LOT of people if you show the entire world--- Enough to be a best-selling author, in fact. The same holds true for there being someone bound to hate your work.
  • For a list of Copyright myths, visit http://www.templetons.com/brad/copymyths.html
  • Only the lazy and untalented steal. If a lazy and untalented person is more determined than you are, you have much bigger problems.

Give people what they want!

  • If it's your desire to appeal to the masses, you must make your poetry presentable and appealing to those masses. Realize what the average person wants and give it to them.
  • It is not a crime to merely write for yourself, but it's incorrect to expect that to appease a great number of people. Keep in mind that there is no need to strive to please anyone but yourself.
  • Join an effective site that is able to host your blog in such a way where visitors can easily find your poetry and navigate through it. Also, a visually stunning page goes a long way. For a list of sites, visit our About Us section... or better yet, browse through The Top 100 Online Poets to view the most effective sites and to see what those poets have in common.
  • BE THE READER. Go to a public computer or just log out of every site except this one, then click on the link you've provided on PoetryBlogRankings to see what your poetry looks like from the readers point-of-view.
    • Does the link work? Is the poetry easy to find? What rating does it deserve?
(then ask yourself) "Are the most readily-available pieces presentable and a true representation of my talent?"

Invite people to rate your work

  • Again, this site is more about self-promotion than anything. Promoting yourself promotes the poetry of others on the site as well. Promote through a blog, an email, through a MySpace bulletin, by joining and inviting others to our FaceBook group entitled 'PoetryBlogRankings.com', or by any other way you see fit or know how.
  • Check out and embed one of our promotional videos to persuade your audience, friends, and family to visit this site by visiting http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=ED6BC66ABA2E5083
